Benfica team news

This fixture represents Benfica’s penultimate game in their pre-season preparation. Eagles head coach Roger Schmidt, who joined after leaving PSV Eindhoven, comes into this meeting with a healthy squad and no major injury concerns. In turn he’s expected to field a competitive starting lineup. This means Odysseas Vlachodimos should feature in goal with central defensive pair Nicolas Otamendi and Morato ahead of him. New signee David Neres should forge an impressive attacking trident alongside Rafa Silva and Goncalo Ramos.

Newcastle team news

It’s a different story for Eddie Howe who is suffering a defensive headache. Jamal Lewis, Federico Fernandez, Fabian Schar and Javier Manquillo are either doubtful or ruled out for the Benfica game with respective muscular problems. The quartet missed Newcastle’s recent meeting with Burnley and were joined on the sidelines by Martin Dubravka and Chris Wood meaning Nick Pope and Callum Wilson are likely to start in the Portuguese capital.

Scoreline prediction: Benfica 2-1 Newcastle
