Napoli’s top-six prospects took a dent last time out, meaning they will be desperate for a win this Saturday against Sassuolo in Serie A.
The momentum has swung in the favour of Roma and AC Milan after Gennaro Gattuso’s side suffered a shock 2-1 reversal to Parma in midweek. That result has created a gap of three points between the Parthenopeans in seventh and Milan in sixth.
They will qualify for the Europa League by virtue of having won the recent Coppa Italia final, but if Napoli want to finish in the top six they cannot afford to see further points fall by the wayside with three matches remaining.
And right now ties don’t come too much trickier than Sassuolo, who sit just below the hosts in eighth.
Carlo Rossi’s side were looking good value to gatecrash the top-six party, and although their aspirations have tailed off in recent weeks, since the restart they have picked up results against Inter Milan, Lazio and Juventus, so will be confident of ruining Gattuso’ weekend.

Players to watch:
Napoli: With Mertens out of action for the time being, Gattuso will need some of his less influential attackers to really step up and fill the void of the Belgian. One player who is capable of replicating the diminutive forward’s performances is Matteo Politano, who has a goal and an assist to his name in the past three Serie A matches. The Inter Milan loanee was in and out of Antonio Conte’s side earlier in the season but has come to life at the San Paolo Stadium and Napoli need him to really come to the fore if they are to sneak into the Europa League qualification places.
Sassuolo: With Bourabia banned for this fixture, the Black and Greens have a monumental job on their hands to compete with the central midfield brilliance of Napoli, who boast the likes of Fabian Ruiz, Diego Demme, Allan and Piotr Zielinski, among one or two other star names. But, in Manuel Locatelli, Rossi has a midfielder capable of squaring up to that ominous Napoli prospect and can rest safe knowing his side will not get outrun with the former AC Milan man darting across the turf. He may only be 22, but Locatelli has shown he has footballing intelligence that far exceeds his age, and he will be relishing the chance to strut his stuff at the San Paolo this weekend.
