Napoli and Roma meet on Sunday at 8:45pm with both sides looking to keep their Europa League places secure.
Although there are still nine games remaining, both Roma and Napoli appear to be out of the Champions League picture as they are 12 and 15 points behind fourth-placed Atalanta respectively.
It was Atalanta that all but ended Napoli’s hopes with a 2-0 win over the Partenopei in midweek. The result also brought to a halt their nine-match unbeaten run across all competitions, during which they won the Coppa Italia (which gives Napoli a Europa League safety net).
Roma, meanwhile, have lost their five of their past 10 games including a 2-0 defeat to 15th-placed Udinese last time out, a run that saw them drop out of the top four and fall away from Atalanta.

Napoli & Roma’s previous line-ups:
- Napoli (vs Atalanta): Ospina*; Di Lorenzo, Maksimovic, Koulibaly, Rui; Fabian, Demme, Zielinski; Politano, Mertens, Insigne.
- Roma (vs Udinese): Mirante; Peres, Smalling, Fazio, Kolarov; Cristante, Diawara; Perez, Perotti*, Under; Kalinic.
David Ospina is expected to miss the visit of Roma, suffering a head injury in first half of Napoli’s defeat to Atalanta. Meanwhile Diego Perotti is suspended for Roma after being sent off against Udinese.
Players to watch:
Napoli: Arkadiusz Milik. Despite Dries Mertens taking the headlines this season, Milik is actually Napoli’s top scorer in Serie A, grabbing 10 goals in 19 appearances. Unsettled by injuries at various stages, Milik hasn’t had the opportunity to build a long run in the starting XI and has had to make do with substitute appearances in his past two matches, despite scoring on Serie A’s return. But Milik’s time at Napoli could be running out, with the Polish striker currently being liked with a move away. Roma are one of the teams with whom Milik has been linked, as a potential swap deal that would see Cengiz Under move to Napoli, even if that seems unlikely given the Giallorossi appear to be chasing other strikers. Roma are not alone, though. Milik, 26, has also been linked with a move to the Premier League, namely Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, while Atletico Madrid are another side being credited with interest.
Roma: Edin Dzeko had to make do with a substitute appearance against Udinese last time out. But given Roma’s toothlessness in front of goal, the Bosnian could be back in the starting XI. Named captain in January following Alessandro Florenzi’s sale to Valencia, Dzeko is Roma’s top-scorer in Serie A this season, scoring 14 goals while also adding four assists, still showing his worth at the age of 34.
However, reports in Italy suggest Roma are looking to strengthen their attack in the upcoming transfer window – focusing on free agent Edinson Cavani – in a move that could push Dzeko out of the club. Dzeko has been a previous target of Inter boss Antonio Conte, with the Italian having tried to sign the striker for his Chelsea side in 2017/18, unhappy with Alvaro Morata following Diego Costa’s departure.
