Mohamed Salah is set to sign a new contract with Liverpool, according to Egyptian sports minister Ashraf Sobhi.

Salah is currently in the form of his life, and is a key part of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side that is chasing an unprecedented Quadruple. The Reds have already scooped the EFL Cup and are in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, the quarter-finals of the Champions League and just one point behind Premier League leaders Manchester City.

The Egyptian forward is running away with the race for the Premier League’s Golden Boot, scoring 20 goals in 28 appearances this season, six more than any other player.

He’s also pushing teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold close in the race for the Playmaker Award with 10 assists and is the only Premier League player to hit 10+ goals and 10+ assists this season.

And Salah has been doing all of this despite his future currently being in doubt. While his contract is not up this summer, so there’s not an immediate worry of Salah leaving on a free transfer, Liverpool will be wary of the Egyptian’s deal ending next year.

Understandably, given his stature, Salah has pretty much every big club in Europe interested in swooping in on any uncertainty with his future. Barcelona have previously been touted as having interest and may have signed him a few years ago, while Paris Saint-Germain are also linked with Salah as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe should the Frenchman join Real Madrid.

Recent reports suggested a move could be on the cards this summer, claiming Salah had no intention of renewing his contract at Liverpool, forcing the Reds to cash in this year rather than lose him on a free contract in 12 months.

Egypt sports minister Sobhi revealed he spoke to Salah after the Pharaohs were beaten by Senegal in World Cup qualifying last month, ending their dreams of playing in Qatar this winter, and told the forward to leave Liverpool.

However, Sobhi also revealed that Salah appears set on signing a new deal with the Anfield club.

“I met with Mohamed Salah at the airport after the end of the Senegal match and the failure to reach the World Cup finals and said to him to forget what happened and focus on what’s next,” Sobhi told Egyptian radio.

“I have advised him to continue his journey at a club other than Liverpool, but his direction now is to renew his contract with Liverpool.

“There are campaigns against Salah directed by some to bring him down, but I asked him not to pay attention to them.”
