Mohamed Salah admits he ‘doesn’t know’ if he will sign a new Liverpool contract, but insists it’s not “about the money”

Mohamed Salah has worryingly conceded that he remains unsure whether he will put pen to paper on a new contract at Liverpool.
The Egyptian superstar has been the talismanic force at Anfield since joining from Roma in 2017, enjoying a trophy-laden five years at Anfield, during which time he has nabbed plenty of individual accolades and scored a quite ridiculous 155 goals in 245 games across all competitions.
However, there have been concerns bubbling under the surface that the 29-year-old could be inching towards the exit doors having not penned fresh terms for Liverpool, with the forward set to enter the final 12 months of his current deal this summer.

Currently at loggerheads over a new contract, there will be concerns on Merseyside when the season comes to a close, as a number of Europe’s leading lights are expected to be sniffing around and monitoring the situation closely, with Salah able to leave on a free transfer next year.
Salah has since exacerbate the concern after admitting he ‘doesn’t know’ whether he will sign the dotted line to extend his stint at Anfield, though he has been quick to pour cold water on suggestions that his motive to dally is incentivised by further financial gain.
When asked about the prospect of signing a new contract, Salah told FourFourTwo: “I don’t know.

“I have one year left. I think the fans know what I want, but in the contract it’s not everything about the money at all. So I don’t know, I can’t tell you exactly. I have one year left and the fans know what I want.
“This club means a lot to me – I’ve enjoyed my football here more than anywhere, I gave the club everything and everybody saw that. I’ve had a lot of unbelievable moments here, winning trophies, individual goals, individual trophies. It’s like a family here.”
Liverpool are currently in the midst of a potentially historic season, with the quadruple still on, having claimed the League Cup, through to the FA Cup final, the Champions League semi-final and effectively neck-and-neck with Man City in the title race. And Salah insists that’s where his immediate focus lies.

He added: “I’m not worried, I don’t let myself worry about something. The season didn’t finish yet, so let’s finish it in the best possible way – that’s the most important thing. Then in the last year, we’re going to see what’s going to happen.”
Despite those concerns, though, Salah has intimated that he will stay at Anfield for at least the 2022/23 season, adding: “Yeah. Er, I think so? But if they want me to go, that’s something different!
“To play in that atmosphere and to see the fans always behind me… I have banners in the stadium, two or three, and they’re always singing my song. It’s going to be a really sad moment [when I eventually leave.]”
