While these are the two most successful sides in Lega Basket Serie A history, there is quite some gulf when it comes to title triumphs, with current champions Milano winning a record 29 trophies to Bologna’s 16.
Milano made the most of their home-court advantage in the first two games against Bologna. In the opener, it was a 92-82 victory, before Le Scarpette Rosse edged a 79-76 contest to give them a 2-0 series lead.
However, Bologna struck back in the next two games at their home, winning 69-61 and 93-89. The back-and-forth showdown headed back to Milan for Game Five and the hosts claimed a third success, picking up a 79-72 win.
Bologna have refused to yield, though. Ettore Messina was just one win away from claiming the championship in Wednesday’s showdown, but Bologna secured a famous and emphatic 85-66 triumph in their backyard to bring the series to an epic 3-3 stalemate.
All eyes now turn to tonight’s winner-takes-all showdown at Milano’s Mediolanum Forum. It’s set to be a historic evening for both of these clubs, bringing the curtain down on one of the most pulsating and competitive finals in the competition’s history.
