Mesut Ozil transfer news: Fenerbahce favourites to sign Arsenal midfielder

Mesut Ozil’s time at Arsenal appears to be drawing to a close with Fenerbahce now the strong favourites to sign the German playmaker during the January Transfer Window.

While reports this week have suggested the 32-year-old has held talks with DC United over a possible move to the MLS, a move to Turkey could now be on the cards with DHA Turkey claiming this week a three-and-half year deal has been agreed.

No announcement has been made as of yet but Fenerbahce boss Erol Bulut has done little to dampen the speculation: “Mesut Ozil’s situation will become clear in the coming days,” he said.

“Mesut’s name is very common. It is not possible for me to make a comment before he comes.”

Sky Bet currently price that January move at 1/5 with a move to any MLS side falling away to 10/1. Moves to Besitkas and Istanbul Basaksehir are available at 22/1 with Manchester United a rank outsider at 25/1.

A January move would involve a small fee and shift the midfielder’s £350,000-a-week salary off the wage bill six months early, but Ozil’s agent has not ruled out the possibility of his client seeing out the remainder of his contract in north London when his options will likely be broader.

Mikel Arteta meanwhile says Ozil can leave the club this month providing the deal is right both the club and player.

“If something is sorted this month [in the January transfer window], it’s because it’s good for both parties.

“Good for Mesut and his future, and good for the club. If that’s the case, we will move forward. If that’s not the case, the player will continue here.”
