Barcelona will reportedly keep paying Lionel Messi several million over the next four years even if he leaves the club on a free this summer.
Marca claim Messi’s most recent contract extension included bonuses totalling nearly £70million to be paid over two instalments. The Argentina international claimed half of that last summer but the remaining £35million is set to be paid in eight stages over the coming years, whether or not he is at the club.
Messi is free to leave the Liga giants on a free transfer when his contract expires in the summer, but he revealed last month he still doesn’t know where he will be beyond the end of the current campaign.
Manchester City are favourites to sign the 33-year-old, with Paris Saint-Germain also relatively short odds to negotiate a free transfer. He has also spoken of a desire to play in the United States before hanging up his boots.

Real Madrid are reportedly prepared to pay up to £200m to sign Kylian Mbappe from Real Paris Saint Germain.
Real are long-term admirers of the World Cup winner who has entered the final 18 months of his contract at Parc de Princes.
Mbappe has also been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool but Real are now planning their move and according to AS, are ready to sell six players to fund the move.
Gareth Bale, Isco, Marcelo, Dani Ceballos and Brahim Diaz are those the club are eager to offload on a permanent basis to raise the cash needed to bring Mbappe to the Spanish capital.

There is ‘no chance’ of Manchester United or Liverpool signing Real Madrid skipper Sergio Ramos.
The Spain international is out of contract at the end of the season at the Bernabeu with reports claiming the defender has rejected Real’s offer of a new deal.
United and Liverpool are among the clubs to be linked with a move for the 34-year-old but according to The Athletic, neither will make a move to sign the veteran with the expectation he will eventually sign a new deal in Madrid.

Arsenal are reportedly lining up a move for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Manor Solomon.
The Guardian report Arsenal have already held intital talks with the player’s representatives having heavily scouted him during his time in Ukraine.
A January move for the winger, who scored against Real Madrid both home and away in this season’s Champions League campaign, is unlikely however with the Gunners lacking the funds needed to make the move happen this month.
Ozil a ‘Fenerbahce fanatic’

Mesut Ozil’s agent is hopeful the Arsenal playmaker can agree a move to Fenerbahce can be completed soon.
Ozil has made no secret of his admiration for the Turkish giants in recent days and while there have also been talks with MLS side DC United, a move to Turkey this month appears to be edging closer.
“Ozil is not an ordinary Fenerbahce supporter. He’s a fanatic. He would only come to Turkey to play for Fenerbahce. I hope it will happen,” Sogut told beIN Sports Turkey.
“This transfer needs a process. It would be wrong to say certain things before something happens, but I hope it will happen. I always say that. Everyone understands what Ozil wants to do after his latest tweets.”
