The 2023 Stuttgart Open has already hit the quarter-final stage and Taylor Fritz is the highest ranked player left in the tournament after Stefanos Tsitsipas’ shock exit at the hands of 36-year-old Frenchman Richard Gasquet.  

The American was given a bye into the second round as one of the top four seeds, but took just 1 hour and 25 minutes to defeat Russian Aslan Karatsev in straight sets (7-6, 6-3). After a less than impressive display at the French Open that saw him dumped out in the third round by Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, Fritz will be hoping to build momentum going into Wimbledon, a tournament that he reached the quarter-final stage in last year.

Fucsovics, meanwhile, has put in two battling performances to reach this stage, first knocking out Denis Shapovalov 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 before overcoming Yibing Wu 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in back-to-back matches that both last over two hours. This is the Hungarian’s first quarter-final appearance at an ATP event this year, but his third during his career in Stuttgart.

However, he has never got past this round in his two previous attempts, losing against Milos Raonic in 2019 and Nick Kyrgios last year.
