Marseille will be aiming to put an end to their awful streak in Ligue 1 when they welcome Rennes at the Stade Velodrome on Saturday at 20:00 pm (UK Time).
André Villas-Boas’ men had a solid start to this Ligue 1 season, but their recent run of form has been abysmal. They are winless in five competitive outings and have lost the last four of these. Last weekend they were demolished 3-1 on the road at Monaco and it was the third game out of four in which they have conceded more than two goals. Despite the recent run of form, OM still find themselves in sixth place in the Ligue 1 table, four points behind the European spots. On home soil, Marseille were on a five-game unbeaten run until the beginning of January, but they have now lost their most recent two league matches. Furthermore, they are winless in their last three home meetings with Rennes and have conceded six goals in the process.
On the flip side, Rennes were undefeated in seven Ligue 1 games prior to their unexpected 0-1 home loss against Lille last time out in the league. Julien Stephan’s side haven’t been playing spectacular football this season but still find themselves sitting fifth in the championship standings, just three points behind fourth-placed Monaco. They also have the lowest attacking record of those inside the top five, but when it comes to defending, Rennes are very solid. Les Rouge et Noir can also count on their recent away form in France’s top division; across their last four games on the road, they’ve picked up three wins and drawn the other. In addition, they’ve kept a clean sheet in three of those aforementioned games.
Can Marseille get back to winning ways in Ligue 1 after four games in a row without victory? Or will Rennes extend their unbeaten away streak in Ligue 1 to five games?
