Marseille welcome Nimes to the Stade Velodrome on Saturday at 4pm (UK time) in Ligue 1, with both teams aiming to get back to winning ways.

Marseille have had a solid first half of the season, but their recent form has been disappointing. They have won just once in their last six competitive matches and come into this tie on the back of a 2-1 defeat at the hands of PSG in the French Super Cup.

However, they are currently unbeaten in two league outings, although their most recent Ligue 1 match ended goalless on the road at Dijon. The positive thing is that Marseille are now back at the Stade Velodrome where they have been playing good football over the past two months. OM have won four and drawn one of their last five home games across all competitions, while scoring at least twice in four of them.

By contrast, Nimes are having an awful Ligue 1 campaign at the moment and they seem to be the main contenders for relegation. Bernard Blaquart’s men are bottom of the Ligue 1 table, tied on 12 points with 19th-placed Lorient and already five points adrift of safety. They have only won one of their last 13 league games and are currently on an eight-game winless streak.

In addition, Nimes have lost seven of their last eight Ligue 1 matches, including a 0-1 home defeat at the hands of Lille a week ago. Away from home, Nimes are winless in four league matches at the moment and have failed to score in three of those games.

Will Marseille bounce back from their French Super Cup defeat? Or will the visitors manage to put an end to their abysmal eight-game winless run in Ligue 1?

Marseille and Nimes’ previous line-ups:

  • Marseille (vs Paris Saint-Germain): Mandanda*; Sakai, Caleta-Car, Gonzalez, Nagatomo; Rongier, Kamara, Gueye; Thauvin, Payet, Radonjic.
  • Nimes (vs Lille): Reynet; Alakouch, Deaux, Briancon, Meling; Fomba, Cubas, Ripart, Ferhat, Eliasson; Roux.

Steve Mandanda came off in the defeat to PSG last time out and is expected to miss out here with what is thought to be a thigh issue, meaning Yohann Pele is likely to deputise between the sticks. Elsewhere, Luis Henrique and Jordan Amavi remain out of contention, while for Nimes, Florian Miguel returns from suspension, but Pablo Martinez, Loick Landre and Sidy Sarr are all expected to sit this one out.
