Maritimo vs Porto build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

A run of five consecutive league defeats has seen Maritimo edge closer to the relegation places. Milton Mendes’ side currently sit a place and one point above the relegation play-off place, and two clear of the bottom two. With the exception of a humbling 3-0 home loss against Paços de Ferreira, these setbacks have been close affairs, including a 2-1 defeat at Tondela last time out. At home they’ve been performing below par, winning just two of their previous nine outings and neither of those sides (Tondela and Belenenses) are in the top half of the table.

So it’s going to be a tall order for Maritimo to end this rotten form against second-placed Porto who are in great spirits following an impressive Champions League win over Juventus in midweek. However, their domestic form has been a tad disappointing of late, with three successive draws seeing their championship hopes slip away. Porto come into this game 10 points behind runaway leaders Sporting but more concerning is the fact Braga have sneaked up on them and now find themselves just a point below Conceição’s men. Although unbeaten in their previous six league away games, Porto have now gone two matches on the road without a win.

  • Maritimo (vs Tondela): Secco; Karo, Lucas Áfrico, Júnior; Winck, Bambock, Jean, Macedo, Söderström; Tagueu, Guitane.
  • Porto (vs Juventus): Marchesín; Manafá, Mbemba, Pepe, Sanusi; Otávio, Uribe, Oliveira, Corona; Marega, Taremi.

Rodrigo Pinho and Fabio China are doubts for Maritimo. As for Porto, they are still missing Ivan Marcano who is currently recovering from a serious knee injury, and Nanu.

Players to watch: Mehdi Taremi (Porto)

Sérgio Conceição will understandably be disappointed with Porto’s recent form on the road. A four-game winning streak has recently been replaced with successive draws including a goalless affair at Belenenses who are fighting relegation. But they still haven’t lost away away since a 3-2 defeat to Paços de Ferreira and in their last four outings in which one player really stood above the rest. Mehdi Taremi stands alongside Sérgio Oliveira as Porto’s leading marksman on nine strikes but, of their last 10 away goals, he’s been responsible for netting over a half (six). Can the Iranian striker be on hand to inflict another loss on struggling Maritimo?
