Inaugurated in 2016, the Mares Novices’ Hurdle is one of the newest races on the Festival calendar.

The irrepressible Willie Mullins dominated the early years of the event, training the winners in each of the first five renewals, but his streak was ended by Henry De Bromhead and Rachael Blackmore in 2021 on Telmesomethinggirl.

Harry Fry then became the first British trainer to win the race last year, courtesy of Love Envoi’s triumph.

Lot of Joy seems to provide Mullins’ best chance of returning to winning ways in this year’s renewal, while Nikini will also be in contention.

But many people’s favourite appears to be Nicky Henderson’s Luccia, with Nico de Boinville in saddle. The mare in unbeaten in her four runs and yet to be really challenged so far, so this will provide a perfect stage to showcase her peak.
