Manchester United confirm which shirt number Christian Eriksen will wear
Manchester United have confirmed that Christian Eriksen will wear Jesse Lingard’s old No. 14 shirt for this upcoming season.
The Danish playmaker completed a move to Old Trafford earlier this month following his short spell at Brentford last season.
He signed a three-year deal with the Red Devils and initially became Erik ten Hag’s second capture of the summer after Tyrell Malacia, before the club confirmed the £48.3m signing of Lisandro Martinez on Wednesday.

Traditionally a No. 10, speculation has been rife as to whether Eriksen would take on the fabled number at Old Trafford, which is currently being occupied by Marcus Rashford — but instead he will wear the No. 14, allowing Rashford to keep his current jersey.
A vacancy for the 14 shirt number opened up this summer following the departure of Jesse Lingard, whose contract expired at the end of June. Incidentally, the academy graduate will be wearing the 10 shirt at his new club Nottingham Forest.
Man Utd confirmed the news on social media, posting a picture of the No. 14 shirt emblazoned with Eriksen’s name. On their official Twitter account, the club captioned: “He’s a 10 but he wears 14″…

The reaction was a fairly positive one with many fans suggesting that Eriksen is a major upgrade on Lingard, while others speculated that by the Dane not taking up the vacant 21 shirt, it’s a sign that Frenkie de Jong — who has worn 21 since 2016 — is joining them…

De Jong has been an intensely-pursued target of Man Utd this summer, with Ten Hag believed to have made the midfield metronome his priority target.
However, the club have so far found their attempts to lure the Dutchman to England difficult, with no breakthrough made as of yet.
It was reported last month that Man Utd agreed an initial fee of around £63m for De Jong with Barcelona — but the club’s president, Joan Laporta, recently revealed that no bids for the midfielder have been accepted.
“Frenkie de Jong is our player, we really like him,” Laporta told ESPN
“We received some offers for Frenkie but we didn’t accept as of now, as we want to talk with him and know exactly what he wants. We need to clarify some aspects of his situation.”
