Manchester United have started to hit serious form under Erik ten Hag and will be looking to carry that momentum into Sunday’s latest Premier League match-up against West Ham (4.15pm kick-off, UK time).
After a stuttering start to his tenure, Ten Hag has roused English football’s sleeping giant. The Red Devils enter this showdown after claiming three successive results against the three clubs directly above them. A win over Spurs and draws against Newcastle and Chelsea suggest Man Utd are heading in the right direction.
West Ham have largely flattered to deceive this campaign, losing half of their 12 matches so far. But, David Moyes is an experienced coach and a recent 2-0 win over Bournemouth hoisted them up into the top half of the table. Moyes has a terrible record on the road to the division’s so-called ‘Big Four’, failing to win in 69 Premier League away matches to Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea, but he will be determined to buck that wretched trend on Sunday.

Man Utd team news
Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Donny van de Beek have all recently returned to training and will be in line to make Sunday’s matchday squad. Anthony Martial has been absent with a recent back issue, but he too is back on the field at Carrington and will be expected to feature in some capacity. Cristiano Ronaldo should also be available after Ten Hag excluded him from the Chelsea match because of his touchline antics against Tottenham, in which he reportedly refused to enter the field as a late substitute and trudged down the tunnel early. The only other concern for Ten Hag is Raphael Varane, who is not expected back until late next month.
Although Ronaldo has seen his minutes restricted this term as Ten Hag adopts a more fluid, pressing system, the ageing Portuguese is still an incredibly valuable asset. Last term, he finished behind only Golden Boot-winning duo Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-Min (23 apiece) for most goals (18), but his absence as a consistent starter this term has raised a potential issue in Ten Hag’s squad. So far, his highest Premier League scorer has just three goals (Antony and Marcus Rashford). It’s a problem Ralf Rangnick anticipated last campaign, as he recently revealed he tried to persuade the board to sign Erling Haaland, Dusan Vlahovic and Alvaro Morata, and many others.
“There was no such [transfer] dossier, and it was never wanted by the club,” Rangnick told German outlet BILD. “But even without such a script, it was clear to everyone that there was a need in many areas.
TRUE✅ Ralf Rangnick told me: He tried to get for @ManUtd Alavaro Morata, Dusan Vlahovic, Christopher Nkunku, Josko Gvardiol, Luis Diaz & Erling Haaland. But the Club refused Winter-Transfers pic.twitter.com/hJ5fhM3dpE

“That’s why we were already discussing players like Josko Gvardiol and Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig. Those were names that were realistic.
“We also talked about Alvaro Morata, Luis Diaz, Dusan Vlahovic and, as I said, Erling Haaland when they were still on the market. But the club decided at that time to rebuild the team under the new coach.”
West Ham team news
Nayef Aguerd is back and fit for the Hammers, but Moyes recently confirmed that he’s embracing caution with the summer recruit and he won’t feature against Man Utd. The likes of Maxwel Cornet, Craig Dawson and Lucas Paqueta will all be hoping to recover in time to make the journey to Old Trafford.
Scoreline prediction: Man Utd 1-0 West Ham
