Manchester United’s quest for Champions League qualification continues when they host West Ham United on Wednesday at 6:00 PM.

The Red Devils were soundly beaten 3-1 by Chelsea in their FA Cup semi-final clash at the weekend but prior to that, had gone 19 games unbeaten across all competitions.

They haven’t lost a Premier League game since a 2-0 home defeat to Burnley back in January and as a result, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s men now find themselves in fifth place, behind a faltering Leicester in fourth due to the finest of margins with both sides boasting a goal difference of +28.

West Ham, meanwhile, have dragged themselves away from relegation trouble with a run of just one defeat in their last five games — including a 3-1 win over Watford last time out — and now need a maximum of one point from their last two games to ensure safety, although it is hard to imagine them going down now even with two defeats.

Of course, David Moyes will be keener than most to pick up three points against his old side, providing some added spice to an already lively fixture.

Man Utd & West Ham’s confirmed line-ups and live stats:

Man Utd & West Ham’s previous line-ups:

  • Man Utd (vs Chelsea): De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Bailly*, Maguire, Lindelof, Williams; Fred, Matic, Fernandes; Rashford, James.
  • West Ham (vs Watford): Fabianski; Johnson, Diop, Ogbonna, Cresswell; Rice, Soucek; Bowen, Noble, Fornals; Antonio.

Eric Bailly is almost certain to miss out after suffering a head injury during United’s FA Cup semi-final at the weekend while Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe are also sidelined. Solskjaer‘s defensive worries deepen with doubts over Luke Shaw’s fitness due to a twisted ankle, while the horrendous form of David de Gea — who was arguably at fault for all three of Chelsea’s goals on Sunday — will give the Red Devils boss something to think about.

Ryan Fredericks remains doubtful so young full-back Ben Johnson may be required to step in again. Robert Snodgrass is Moyes‘ only other absentee.

Player to watch: David de Gea (Manchester United)

Usually, we’d pick out a player in red-hot form to keep an eye on but it feels like we’re left with little choice than to talk about David de Gea this time.

The Spaniard has been famously prone to errors for a couple of years now but things went from really, really bad to absolutely terrible at the weekend when he made a number of high-profile errors in United’s FA Cup defeat to Chelsea.

De Gea first allowed an Olivier Giroud flick on to go past him despite getting a good amount of his body behind the ball, while a weak Mason Mount effort from long-range squirmed under the 29-year-old in embarrassing fashion. Given his positioning, you could even argue De Gea was partly to blame for Harry Maguire’s own goal, too, highlighting just how miserable his afternoon at Wembley was.

The position of goalkeeper can be a lonely one at times like this and it will be interesting to see if Solskjaer keeps faith with his goalkeeper and, if he does, how De Gea performs against the directness of Michail Antonio in the West Ham attack — he’s sure to get close to De Gea to say the least.

Scoreline prediction: Man Utd 3-1 West Ham
