Erik ten Hag couldn’t have asked for a better start as Manchester United boss. Although biggest tests away his side are so far unbeaten in pre-season having won three of their opening four games subsequently registering 13 goals and conceding four times. United have been without Cristiano Ronaldo but several youngsters and new signing Tyrell Malacia have got plenty of minutes. Malacia’s fellow new recruits Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez could make their unofficial United debuts here or against Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Unlike the Red Devils, preparation for Atletico’s season only began this week. Diego Simeone’s men ran out comfortable 4-0 winners over Numancia, a game that saw newcomer Axel Witsel come off the bench. Samuel Lino, another signee, did not feature and will be hoping to face the record English champions. Álvaro Morata, who’s expected to leave this summer, began with Saúl Ñíguez — another tipped for a departure — playing the final 45 minutes. Joao Felix remains sidelined for the La Liga outfit and is joined in Atléti’s physioroom by José María Giménez.
