Man United treble 1999: memories from Sir Alex Ferguson’s historic season

Wednesday May 26, 1999, a date etched into the memory of every Manchester United fan.

The Champions League final appeared to be slipping away from Sir Alex Ferguson’s side, only for Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to flip the game on its head in injury time.

Such a thrilling finale was a fitting way for the Red Devils’ pursuit of an unprecedented treble to end.

With the Premier League and FA Cup already in the bag, United’s players wrote their name into the history books at the Camp Nou. Will their achievement ever be repeated? Probably not.

And it definitely won’t ever be forgotten. The game may have taken place two decades ago but it will feel like just yesterday to United supporters all over the world.

With that in mind, we’ve caught up with some United fans to discuss the finest moments from the 1998/1999 season.

That Ryan Giggs goal against Arsenal and a slender title race which was ultimately decided by a solitary point were, unsurprisingly, high on the agenda.
