Man United team news
The Red Devils boss Erik Ten-Hag is expected to welcome back Raphael Varane into the fold on Saturday. While promising youngsters James Garner and Alejandro Garnacho could be given their first action of the tour.
The Dutchman told MUTV: “It’s pre-season. We are happy with the improvement we see, but there’s also a lot of work to do. But we scored some wonderful goals that is also true.”
He was though keen to point areas his team could improve: “The timing, when you start the press for instance, I still see switches that we can avoid and prepare a better pass.”
Aston Villa team news
Steven Gerrard has been a little difficult to predict in pre-season using a number of different players and lineups. If looking tiwards establishing rhythm in his first 11 we could see a return to the starting spots for Ollie Watkins, Tyrone Mings and Jacob Ramsey.
The man in the dugout will no doubt have been motivated by a recent article in which Tim Sherwood doubted their ambitions of a top seven finish. The former Villa boss said: “I believe Stevie is a good manager who will get better with more experience and Villa will improve on what they did last year. Is that going to be enough, a minor improvement?”
Scoreline prediction: Man United 2-1 Aston Villa
