For the second time in the space of just 15 days Manchester City and Brentford will meet in the Premier League on Tuesday, with the two teams this time set to lock horns at the Etihad Stadium.

City ran out 3-1 winners when the pair met at the Gtech Community Stadium on February 5th, a result part of an 11-match winning run for Pep Guardiola’s side that was only brought to an end by Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

A return to winning ways will be the target for City on Tuesday as they bid to move within a point of league leaders Liverpool, while Brentford, who beat the Citizens home and away last season, will be eyeing another big scalp as they look to ease their relegation concerns.

Is Phil Foden a future Ballon d’Or winner?

One man that Brentford won’t be looking forward to facing again on Tuesday night is Manchester City’s irrepressible Phil Foden.

The 23 year old scored all three goals as the Citizens left the Gtech Community Stadium with a 1-3 victory just two weeks ago and will be out to add more to his seasonal tally on Tuesday night.

Unsurprisingly given that he had a prime view of that performance, Bees boss Thomas Frank was impressed and has tipped Foden for an even brighter future in his Monday afternoon press conference.

“For me, he’s the closest England get to a Ballon d’Or winner in the future. I think he has that potential, that level.” Frank told the BBC.

“He influences the game in so many ways. The last game he got on the end of three situations and scored three goals. He is very at good dribbling, very good at sliding people in.”

Foden has 14 goals to his name in all competitions so far this season and is expected to star again for City on Tuesday night.

Man City vs Brentford team news

Jack Grealish and Josko Gvardiol sat out City’s draw with Chelsea due to respective groin and ankle injuries and neither player is likely to return for this midweek clash.

Bernardo Silva did make the bench against Chelsea after passing a late fitness test and, having come on for the final half an hour on Saturday, will now be pushing for a starting berth against Brentford.

The Bees were without Ethan Pinnock for Saturday’s 4-1 loss to Liverpool and manager Thomas Frank does not expect to have the central defender available again until after next month’s international break.

Pinnock joins Rico Henry (knee), Josh Dasilva (knee), Bryan Mbeumo (ankle), Kevin Schade (groin) and Aaron Hickey (thigh) on the treatment table.
