Manchester City will look to zero in on the Premier League title following their Champions League exit when they host Newcastle on Sunday (4.30pm kick-off, UK time).
Pep Guardiola’s side suffered an almighty late collapse against Real Madrid in midweek, crashing out of the Champions League semi-finals in the dying embers, so attention now turns to the Premier League title race, their only chance of major silverware this campaign. Eddie Howe’s Newcastle have been on the up, but the former Bournemouth boss has lost all 11 games he’s faced against City, the worst individual record for a manager against a single club in Premier League history.

Man City team news vs Newcastle: Double defensive doubt for Pep
- Doubts: Kyle Walker, John Stones
Joao Cancelo started at left-back at the Bernabeu, but with Kyle Walker entering this clash as a doubt with an ankle issue, the Portuguese may slot back in to his natural position on the right, opening the door for Oleksandr Zinchenko to come in. John Stones is also nursing a muscle injury, so Guardiola will likely retain the centre-back partnership of Aymeric Laporte and Ruben Dias.
Having seen another Champions League trophy opportunity slip away, Guardiola will no doubt be eyeing up potential transfers this summer to bolster his side’s chances next season, and there has been an interesting name being bandied about this week, with Paul Pogba linked with a potentially monumental move.
According to BBC Sport, City are thought to be keeping tabs on the Frenchman, whose contract expires at the end of the season. With Fernandinho set to leave the club, and City supposedly put off my West Ham’s asking price for Declan Rice, Pogba is looking like a potentially attractive proposition for Guardiola.
Should a move materialise, it would echo a transfer that proved power-shifting in Manchester after Carlos Tevez famously traded Manchester United for the Etihad in 2009, with the mercurial Argentine going on to help the club seals its first ever Premier League title in 2012.
