Manchester City and Tottenham played out a modern-day Champions League classic at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.
The teams shared four goals in an absurd start to the game before efforts from Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero put the hosts firmly in the driving seat.
But the pendulum swung again as Fernando Llorente bundled home to force the balance back into the north Londoners’ favour. Sterling thought he had won it in injury time – sparking wild scenes of celebration – only for VAR to rule his strike out for offside.
It was a cruel way for Pep Guardiola’s men to fall short – and their fans have every right to be feeling sorry for themselves today. Fortunately, we managed to get their thoughts on the big questions doing the rounds before all the drama unfolded.
Would the Etihad faithful want to get their hands on a quadruple if it meant losing Guardiola as manager? And would De Bruyne or Aguero be sent packing if City could only retain one of their services?
