Sevilla prepare to face Mallorca in La Liga on Wednesday at 6pm (UK time) as club president Jose Castro warns potential buyers that they will have to fork out over €50m for Jules Kounde.

Julen Lopetegui’s men enter this midweek clash riding the crest of a wave in third and just the single point off the summit, with Real Sociedad a surprise early leader. Mallorca meanwhile have adjusted well back to life in La Liga, with the newly-promoted club currently 13th after 12 points from their opening 10 games.

Mallorca vs Sevilla build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

Having hauled themselves out of the Segunda Division last season, finishing as runners-up, Luis Garcia Plaza has made a positive start to Los Piratas’ return to the Spanish top flight, with the Balearic Islands club currently just below mid-table after three wins and three draws from their first 10 fixtures.

Sevilla by contrast have started the season like a house on fire and currently find themselves just two places below La Liga’s early pace-setters. Lopetegui’s side have lost just the single game this term as they are looking to juggle the strain of Champions League nights, winning six of their opening nine contests in the league.

  • Mallorca (vs Valencia): Reina; Maffeo, Valjent, Russo, Olivan; Galarreta, Baba, Sanchez, Lee*, Rodriguez; Angel*.
  • Sevilla (vs Levante): Dmitrovic; Navas, Kounde, Carlos, Augustinsson; Fernando, Delaney, Suso, Oliver, Munir; Mir.

Karim Rekik remains out of action for Sevilla with a hamstring injury, but last season’s top scorer Youssef En-Nesyri returned to the bench for the Levante win after missing the previous two vs Granada and Celta Vigo. Angel Rodriguez and Takefusa Kubo are unavailable for the hosts through injury, while Rodrigo Battaglia and Lee Kang-in are suspended after the pair got sent off against Valencia last time out, the former in the 100th minute.

Kounde will not be sold for anything less than €50m, says club president

Jules Kounde has long been the subject of interest from the Premier League, with Chelsea thought to be the biggest admirers of the French centre-back, and were reportedly trying to secure his signature over the summer, but Sevilla’s club president Jose Castro has warned the Blues he won’t be going for cheap.

“To say that the club is ruined is ridiculous,” Castro told AS. “Last season we had a surplus, after a season without season tickets or ticket sales.

“Yes, the losses would have been solved by selling Kounde, but we showed that we are financially powerful by not accepting €50m. To say that the club is ruined is not caring for the club.”
