Lyon vs Strasbourg build-up & previous line-ups:
Since finishing 11th in 1995/96, Lyon have played 25 consecutive Ligue 1 seasons and have never once ended a campaign below seventh place. Across that quarter-century Les Gones famously won seven successive French championships and since their most recent success they’ve finished runner-up on three occasions. Peter Bosz has been tasked with improving on last season’s fourth place finish. Lyon subsequently began with five points accumulated from 12 available. An opening weekend draw against Brest was followed by a humbling 3-0 loss at Angers, the following week saw them snatch a point from the jaws of victory against Clermont before running out narrow 0-1 winns at Nantes prior to the recent international break.
It wasn’t only Lyon that returned to winning ways last time out. Strasbourg also claimed their first win of this campaign subsequently ending a four-game winless streak (two draws and two losses). The club that finished 15th in Ligue 1 last season will be looking to create a piece of history this weekend. On their previous 21 visits to Lyon they’ve returned home without a single win; the hosts claiming 15 victories and six games ending in a stalemate, against no other current top-flight team do they enjoy a better home run against. You have to go back to August 1979 (0-2) for the last time Strasbourg beat them on the road.

Player to watch: Karl Toko Ekambi (Lyon)
This season is Karl Toko Ekambi’s third playing in a Lyon jersey. The 28-year-old forward, who prefers to cut inside from the left flank, has started in each of the club’s opening four league matches. He’s yet to open his account having picked up a single assist in their opening game. Last term Toko Ekambi bagged 14 strikes across 35 league appearances. The 34-time capped Cameroon will fancy his chances of breaking his 2021/22 duck against Strasbourg considering he’s scored five goals in five league games against them including three of Lyon’s last five past the Racers.
