Lyon and Bordeaux will square off at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais on Friday at 20:00 pm (UK Time), with both sides aiming to build on their recent victories in Ligue 1.
Lyon were on an unbelievable 16-game unbeaten run in Ligue 1 prior to their unexpected 0-1 home loss against Metz two weeks ago. However, they bounced back in emphatic fashion when they ran out 5-0 winners on the road at St. Etienne last Sunday. Rudi Garcia’s men currently lie third in the standings with 43 points after 21 rounds, just two points behind Lille and defending champions Paris Saint Germain. Lyon have been clinical in front of goal throughout this Ligue 1 campaign having scored 44 goals, which is the second-best offensive record in the division. On home soil, Lyon were unbeaten in nine league matches prior to their aforementioned loss a fortnight ago.
Bordeaux meanwhile have also enjoyed an excellent run of form lately as they head into this fixture on the back of a four-game unbeaten streak in France’s top division. Les Girondins have won their most recent three league outings, which includes a narrow 2-1 home victory over Angers last weekend. Away from home, Bordeaux are undefeated in three matches and they’ve kept a clean sheet in each of these. Despite this recent uptick in form, Jean-Louis Gasset’s side only find themselves 7th in the Ligue 1 table, four points behind the European places. They should however feel confident ahead of this trip as they are unbeaten in their last four visits to the Parc Olympique Lyonnais and have scored at least once in each of these matches.
Can Lyon close the gap at the top of the Ligue 1 table? Or will Bordeaux win their fourth Ligue 1 game in a row?
