Former Liverpool striker Dean Saunders believes Christian Eriksen would ‘slot into Liverpool’s team’ as they search for another playmaker.

The newly crowned European Cup winners are yet to make a big signing in the transfer window but Saunders has urged them to sign the Tottenham star.

Could Liverpool land Eriksen? Five key things to know…

  • Eriksen joined Spurs from Ajax in 2013 for £11m.
  • He is entering the last year of his contract.
  • Pochettino has confirmed the Danish star is attracting a lot of interest.
  • Eriksen has admitted he wants a new challenge.
  • Liverpool could be tempted to make a bid as they look for more creativity.

Christian Eriksen is entering the final year of his current deal at Tottenham and will almost certainly be leaving the club this summer.

Liverpool have been reportedly looking at the possibility of bringing Coutinho back to Anfield as they look for more creativity but ex-Red Saunders believes they should look closer to home.

The Welshman, who made his name at Oxford United, thinks the Danish star would be a good fit on Merseyside.

When asked by Talksport whether the Anfield club will spend their transfer budget during this window and on who, he said: “[They could] spend it maybe… I think Eriksen could slot into Liverpool’s team; somebody like Eriksen. That type of player who will make their midfield a bit more productive.”

Eriksen wants to ‘try something new’

The Tottenham star has been with the club since 2013 but could be about to leave after six seasons at White Hart Lane.

Speaking about his future the 27-year-old told Ekstra Bladet: “I feel that I am a place in my career where I might want to try something new.

“I have the wildest and deepest respect for everything that has happened at Tottenham – I will not be negative. But I have also said that I would like to try something new.

“I hope there will be a resolution during the summer. That’s the plan. In football you do not know when a resolution will happen. It can happen anytime. Everyone wants the best to it to happen as soon as possible, but in football takes things time.”

The Danish star has made 277 appearances for Spurs scoring 66 times and would be a star signing for whoever can match Tottenham’s asking price.
