Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has categorically ruled out a move for Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe.

The Reds have been linked with signing the French forward following reports of their impending new kit deal with Nike – who also sponsor Mbappe – in addition to their lack of activity in the summer transfer window.

Having won the Champions League in June, Liverpool signed just three players in the summer transfer window, two of whom were goalkeepers with Adrian and Andy Lonergan joining centre-back Sepp van den Berg.

Could Mbappe sign for Liverpool? Five things to know…

  • Liverpool been linked with a move for PSG forward Kylian Mbappe.
  • The Frenchman is sponsored by Nike, with whom Liverpool are expected to sign a kit deal soon.
  • But Jurgen Klopp insists the Reds have “absolutely no chance” of signing Mbappe due to his price tag.
  • However, Klopp does believe Liverpool would no problems in convincing big names to move to Anfield.
  • The Reds currently sit six points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

The Reds have managed so far without mass improvements to their already-stellar squad with Klopp’s men currently sitting top of the Premier League table having won 10 of their opening 11 games.

Liverpool will also have the chance to move nine points clear of defending champions Manchester City when the pair meet at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, with the Reds unbeaten in their past 45 home league games.

But if Liverpool do wish to add to their squad either in January or next summer it seems Mbappe will not be one of those new arrivals, according to Klopp.

“Buying this calibre of player is difficult,” he told reporters.

“I don’t see any club at the moment who can buy Kylian Mbappe from PSG. I don’t see any club, that is how it is.

“And we are involved in the clubs that cannot do it. It is as easy as that.

“OK, from a sporting point of view, there are not a lot of reasons to not sign him. What a player he is. But it is about the money of course.

“No chance. Absolutely no chance. Sorry for killing that story.”

Klopp: Liverpool won’t have problems convincing players to sign

Despite Klopp’s insistence that Mbappe would be out of reach for the club, due to financial reasons, the German remains confident Liverpool’s stature in football means they would not have problems signing big names.

Since Klopp took over in 2015, turning the club from mediocrity to Premier League leaders, Liverpool have convinced the likes of Mohamed Salah, Fabinho, Naby Keita, Alisson and Virgil van Dijk to join.

“I don’t think we struggle with convincing players,” Klopp added.

“When you speak to a player you can feel it, this year, last year, even three years ago, you can see in the eyes of a player, I am not sure if honour is the right word, that it is good that we speak to them.

“The club is in a very good position. Image-wise, it maybe always was but now I think it is easier to live the life of a Liverpool supporter and that means automatically being in a situation to sign the players you want to sign.”
