While the Community Shield usually opens the season at Wembley, this year it will be held at Leicester’s King Power Stadium, with Wembley preparing for the Women’s Euro 2022 final on Sunday. However, as always, it does feature the Premier League champions and FA Cup holders, with Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp looking for early bragging rights.

Liverpool team news

Liverpool have had a fairly quiet summer in terms of quantity of incomings, but they have brought in quality. Fabio Carvalho finally joined from Fulham but the big arrival was, of course, Darwin Nunez who is expected to lead the line for Liverpool across the campaign. Forming part of a frankly terrifying front line alongside Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz, Liverpool fans will be hoping Nunez can hit the ground running – especially considering who should be starting for their opponents.

Klopp has confirmed that Alisson will not be available for the Community Shield despite returning to training, but will be back for the Premier League opener. Liverpool will also be without Diogo Jota and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Manchester City team news

That man we were alluding to is, of course, Erling Haaland. The Norwegian was the star arrival of Man City’s summer transfer window but he wasn’t the only big name, with Kalvin Phillips and Julian Alvarez also joining the Premier League champions. With Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling gone, it’ll be interesting to see who Guardiola sees as his first-choice attacking trio, with Phil Foden available having not travelled to America.

Man City could be without their first-choice centre-back pairing though, with Aymeric Laporte still nursing an injury.

Scoreline prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Manchester City
