Liverpool team news
Liverpool haven’t won the EFL Cup since 2012 and in that time, Man City have won six to draw level with them on a record eight triumphs for the competition. But the Reds can reclaim that crown this year and they have had a pretty decent start to the EFL Cup. In the third round, Liverpool beat fellow Premier League side Norwich City 3-0 and they then got past Championship club Preston North End in the fourth round having named a heavily rotated XI. They go into this game in fantastic form, unbeaten in nine games across all competitions since losing to West Ham (their only defeat of the season). However, they are without a host of players including the suspended Andrew Robertson, Virgil van Dijk, Curtis Jones, Thiago, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Nathaniel Phillips.
Liverpool predicted XI: Kelleher; Williams, Matip, Gomez, Tsimikas; Oxlade-Chamberlain, Morton, Keita; Gordon, Firmino, Minamino.
Leicester team news
Like Liverpool, Leicester have faced one Premier League and one Championship side in the EFL Cup this season, with the Foxes beating Millwall 2-0 in the third round. Their reward for that was an all-Premier League tie against Brighton, which they needed penalties to get through, setting up their fourth quarter-final in five seasons. Two of the previous three quarter-finals ended in defeat, but Leicester did beat Everton in 2019/20 before losing to Aston Villa in the semis. Also like Liverpool, Leicester are without a lot of players including Ayoze Perez, Kelechi Iheanacho, Ademola Lookman, Jannik Vestergaard, Filip Benkovic, Wesley Fofana, Caglar Soyuncu, James Justin and Jonny Evans.
Leicester predicted XI: Schmeichel; Castagne, Nelson, Soumare, Thomas; Ndidi; Maddison, Dewsbury-Hall, Tielemans, Barnes; Daka.
Scoreline prediction: Liverpool 3-1 Leicester
