A new nickname for Fabinho? Liverpool’s Viper is always ready to pounce

Liverpool maintained their 100% start in the Premier League courtesy of a 1-0 win away to Sheffield United, with defensive midfielder Fabinho receiving plenty of plaudits.
Jurgen Klopp’s table toppers eventually broke the deadlock in the 70th minute through Georginio Wijnaldum and never looked back at Bramall Lane.
Fabinho v Sheffield United: Five key things to know…
- Fabinho started in his sixth Premier League match (out of seven) this season.
- He played the full 90 minutes as Liverpool ran out 1-0 winners at Bramall Lane.
- The win stretched Liverpool’s winning streak in the league to 16 matches.
- Fabinho produced the most tackles (9), interceptions (3) and tackles (4) in the game.
- His ability to cover ground and pounce earned him the nickname ‘viper’ after WWE wrestler Randy Orton.

However, it was the man floating behind Wijnaldum who came in for great praise after the game ended, which is a sign that he is now perfectly assimilated into the Reds’ midfield.
Fabinho, a champion in Ligue 1 with AS Monaco, joined Liverpool in the summer of 2018 and made 41 appearances as they went on to lift the Champions League trophy and push Manchester City close in the Premier League title race.
His manager, though, previously said that the Reds did not initially see the best of Fabinho, who is now among the first names on Klopp’s teamsheet having started in six of their opening Premier League matches this term.

Against the newly-promoted Blades the Brazil international further displayed why many consider him to be the best defensive midfielder in the division. Fabinho, across 90 minutes, made the most recoveries, tackles and interceptions in the game.
Such ability to be here, there and everywhere has seen him compared to a ‘viper’, which is the moniker of pro-wrestler Randy Orton, whose finishing move ‘RKO’ has developed into a viral hit across social media.
Liverpool and Fabinho return to action next week when they host Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League.
