For those unaware, the Basketball Champions League is not to be confused with the EuroLeague, but is the top-level competition organised by FIFA Europe – after the break off of the EuroLeague. Incepted in 2016, we are now in the seventh season of the Basketball Champions League, with 32 teams entering the group stage.

In Group F, Benfica currently lead the way after winning their opening match against VEF Riga last week. The Portuguese side are currently eighth in the Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol but have won both of their two games so far, only trailing due to having played fewer matches than those above them and are the reigning Portuguese champions. They had to get through the qualifiers to even reach the group stage, beating Golden Eagles Tlli, Keravnos and Brose Bamberg in Group C.

But they had to come from behind to beat Riga last week, falling in the first quarter 27-25. After that though, the Portuguese side were in control with comfortable second and fourth quarters and a narrowly-contested third resulting in a 89-76 victory, with Toney Douglas hitting 17 points, four rebounds, seven assists and two steals.

Limoges, meanwhile, are back in the Basketball Champions League after missing out last season, securing their spot with a sixth-placed finish in France’s LNB Pro A. Last time the French side were in the Champions League, they finished bottom of their group with just two victories and four defeats from their six matches.

They started this season with defeat too. In their first match of Group F, Limoges took on Spanish side Baxi Manresa, who were runners-up last season, and narrowly lost 73-76. Limoges went ahead in the first quarter and managed to hold a three-point lead until the fourth before eventually crumbling.
