Lille vs Nice build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

A first Ligue 1 title since 2011 when Eden Hazard called Lille home is potentially on the horizon. Les Dogues currently lead France’s top division albeit by a single point from defending champions Paris Saint-Germain with Monaco a further point behind with four matches remaining this season. Christophe Galtier’s men have somewhat recovered from a 1-2 loss against Nîmes by registering three wins across their previous four league outings which included a 0-1 win at title rivals PSG. However, their recent form at Stade Pierre-Mauroy has been damaging, they go into this weekend’s game with just one win in five games (2-0 v Marseille).

As for Nice there’s a semblance of momentum under their sails after returning to successful ways last weekend. Les Aiglons ran out 3-1 winners at Montpellier putting a recent two-match winless streak behind them. That being said, their 2-0 loss at Dijon was Nice’s only setback across their previous six Ligue 1 outings, a run which included three wins. However their away form of late has been However their away form of late has been a mixed bag. Adrian Ursea go into this latest round of fixtures having lost four of their last eight away trips whilst picking up just three wins.

  • Nice (vs Montpellier): Benítez; Lotomba, Todibo, Saliba, Kamara; Schneiderlin; Atal, Boudaoui, Claude-Maurice, Lopes; Dolberg.

Timothy Weah is the only Lille player missing this weekend. The same cannot be said for Nice who must do without Amine Gouiri, Khéphren Thuram, Myziane Maolida, Dante and Jeff Reine-Adélaïde.

Player to watch: Mike Maignan (Lille)

Lille are really putting that oft-stated adage “defence wins championships” to the ultimate test. Heading into round 35 they’ve conceded just 22 times, which is the best defensive record in Ligue 1, playing every single minute in their campaign so far is one-time French international goalkeeper Mike Maignan who kept a clean sheet in 18 of those previous 34 outings. That number is currently enough to place him first across Europe’s ‘big five’ leagues. He’s one in front of Manchester City ‘keeper Ederson with Jan Oblak (16) of Atletico Madrid rounding off the top three. This is by far his most productive return. Maignan’s previous best was 15 shutouts in 2018/19 during which time he conceded 33 times. Last season the former Paris Saint-Germain academy graduate managed 12 clean sheets while shipping in 27 goals.
