Lazio vs Roma build-up & previous line-ups:
Heading into this latest round of Serie A fixtures Lazio find themselves sitting in seventh place having accumulated two wins across their opening five matches. Both of those successes came in Lazio’s first two games against Empoli and Spezia, they couldn’t make it three-in-a-row when Milan inflicted a 2-0 loss on them, since then it’s been consecutive draws. Focusing on the Rome derby, Lazio are unbeaten in the last four home Serie A matches against Roma (two wins and two draws), only twice in top-flight history have The Eagles gone five games unbeaten (in 1947 and 2000).
The perfect start to José Mourinho’s tenure at Roma came to an end on matchday four when they suffered a narrow 3-2 loss on the road against Verona, but last time out they successfully bounced back with a narrow 1-0 win over Udinese, which leaves them with four wins across their opening five league games. If we stretch back into last season then Roma have found the net in their last nine Serie A matches: they last scored in 10 consecutive league games in May 2019, under Claudio Ranieri. That being said, the Giallorossi have only managed to keep one clean sheet across their last nine away league games, conceding at least twice in each of the other eight.
- Lazio (vs Torino): Reina; Marusic, Felipe, Acerbi, Hysaj; Cataldi, Alberto, Akpro; Anderson, Immobile, Moro.
- Roma (vs Udinese): Patrício; Karsdorp, Mancini, Ibañez, Calafiori; Veretout, Cristante; Zaniolo, Pellegrini, Mkhitaryan; Abraham.

Player to watch: Jordan Veretout (Roma)
An ever-present in Mourinho’s midfield, having started in each of Roma’s opening five Serie A games this season, Jordan Veretout started 2021/22 on fire by netting three goals across the first two matchdays. He’s since become subdued and before the Romans most recent game against Udinese he wasn’t able to complete the full 90 minutes. However, the 28-year-old French central midfielder has previous history with Lazio, back during his Fiorentina days he netted a hat-trick past Roma’s city rivals. Only against La Viola (four goals) has Veretout netted more times against in Serie A.
