Lazio will look to end a two-game losing run in Serie A when they welcome basement club Crotone to the capital on Friday at 2pm (UK time).

The Stadio Olimpico club’s hopes of securing a top-four finish this term have taken a significant dent since the turn of the year, with The Eagles recently having their noses bloodied by Juventus, which followed on from a 2-0 loss to Bologna, and now means they are seven points adrift of Roma, who occupy the final Champions League qualification place.

Lazio vs Crotone build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

It’s been a chastening experience for Simone Inzaghi these past few weeks, with his side suffering three defeats in their last four Serie A games, exiting the Coppa Italia in January, and capitulating 4-1 at home to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, making the return fixture in Bavaria a bit of a dead rubber.

For Crotone it has been a similar start to 2021, though their have been green shoots of recovery evident in their play recently, beating relegation rivals Torino 4-2 in their last outing, which subsequently ended a seven-match losing streak, and has just given them a glimmer of hope in their attempts to claw away from Serie A’s nether reaches.

  • Lazio (vs Juventus): Reina; Marusic, Hoedt, Acerbi; Lulic, Milinkovic-Savic, Lucas, Alberto, Fares; Correa, Immobile.
  • Crotone (vs Torino): Cordaz; Magallan, Golemic, Luperto; Pereira, Messias, Patriccione, Molina, Reca; Ounas, Simy.

Manuel Lazzari and Luiz Felipe remain out of action for Inzaghi, while Crotone travel to Rome without Manchester City academy graduate Ahmad Benali and Luca Cigarini.

Players to watch:

  • Lazio: The goals have just dried up in recent weeks for perennial fox in the box Ciro Immobile, but Lazio’s typically ruthless finisher will be eager to get back to his usual habits in the final third and compile the misery on lowly Crotone. The 31-year-old has now gone four Serie A games in a row without finding the back of the net, a concerning barren patch for a man who seldom fires a blank. With the Euros fast approaching, and Lazio’s grip on the top-four loosening, Immobile will be a man on a mission when Crotone come to town. Should he get on the scoresheet, then he will become only the second Lazio player to score at least 15 goals in five consecutive Serie A campaigns, after Giuseppe Signori (between 1992 and 1997).
  • Crotone: Pinning all your hopes on one player is never a good idea, but The Pythagoreans‘ chances of staying in the top flight are almost single-handedly hinged on Simy and whether the 28-year-old can continue to find the target on a consistent basis. His brace in the 4-2 win over Torino has just given the basement dwellers a flicker of optimism heading into Spring and also brought his own personal tally up to 10 for the season, an incredible feat considering the current league position of the club. He is, in fact, just one goal away and two from surpassing Obafemi Martins (11 in 2004/05) as the most prolific Nigerian player in a single Serie A campaign.
