Both Lazio and Fiorentina will be hoping to push their way into Serie A’s top four when they face off on Wednesday at 7:45pm (UK time).
Fiorentina go into this game with the slight upper hand, one place and one point clear of Lazio after their 3-0 win over Cagliari at the weekend, which also ended a two-game losing streak. Lazio, meanwhile, were thrashed 4-1 by Hellas Verona to continue their poor run of just two wins in their past six league matches.

Maurizio Sarri defends use of Luis Alberto
According to reports, things aren’t going too well for Maurizio Sarri at Lazio with the former Juventus and Napoli boss’ job already in doubt due to a falling out with his players. The main problem, according to the reports, has been Sarri’s relationship with Luis Alberto – which has apparently worsened after the Italian said his midfielder and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic could not play together.
Alberto, one of the most creative players in Lazio’s squad, has not started in any of Lazio’s past three games across all competitions, having to make do with three substitute appearances. Speaking after Lazio’s 3-1 win over Inter Milan, Sarri said: “If we are up against a more defensive opponent, then we could try that, but we watched Luis in training over the last few days and decided he is better suited when the game is played at a slower tempo.”
And he has doubled down on this, defending his use of Alberto, reiterating that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few (or one in this case).
“We played 12 games, Luis played eight as a starter, while in four he played 40 minutes each,” Sarri told reporters.
“I find it hard to see him as someone who is not playing. There are moments of the season when the needs of the individual do not correspond to the needs of the team and we always look at the collective.
“He is an important player for us and we hope to solve all the problems and to be able to afford Luis Alberto too. This is one of the teams in which I am finding more willingness on the part of the players to understand my dictations, something is missing in practice.
“We have to work and that’s it, it takes patience.”
