Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams has been revealed as the fastest LaLiga player so far this season.

The Spanish international is known for his pace and dribbling abilities, capable of causing devastation to opponents when on the break.

LaLiga’s fastest sprinters this season: Top five players…

  • Inaki Williams: 34.37km/h.
  • Chimy Avila: 34.01km/h.
  • Ferland Mendy: 33.90km/h.
  • Rodrigo Tarin: 33.73km/h.

It should therefore come as no surprise to see Williams top the early standings for fastest player in LaLiga, clocking a top speed of 34.37km/h. Williams also recently made history by breaking the record for most consecutive LaLiga appearances, registering 122 since April 20, 2016.

The 25-year-old is just one of two players to reach a top speed of over 34km/h, being joined by Osasuna forward Chimy Avila, who managed 34.01km/h. Just missing out on the exclusive club is Real Madrid full-back Ferland Mendy, who has already managed 33.90km/h within his first few matches for his new club.

Leganes’ Rodrigo Tarin comes in at number four with a top speed of 33.73km/h, while Mendy’s Real Madrid team-mate Gareth Bale makes up the top five with 33.60km/h. The Welshman has been looking to return to his best this season after failing to secure a move away from Madrid, filling in for the injured Eden Hazard.

Moving down the top 10, Sevilla’s on-loan defender Sergio Reguilon has notched a top speed of 33.53km/h, pushing him slightly ahead of possibly the most surprising name on the list. Known for being a brutish striker, Diego Costa has remarkably produced a top speed of 33.46km/h so far this season, being the fastest player at Atletico Madrid.

Coming in at eighth, Youssef En-Nesyri is the second Leganes player on the list, reaching 33.23km/h to slot in ahead of Inaki’s Bilbao team-mate Oscar de Marcos with 33.11km/h. Rounding off the top 10 is another Atletico player, this time in the form of young Joao Felix, whose top speed of 32.94km/h is a glimpse of things to come from the teenager regarded as one of Europe’s brightest stars.

But despite the impressive speeds already being put in by LaLiga stars this season, no player in the division has managed to top the 34.5km/h speed reached by Virgil van Dijk in last season’s Champions League semi-final against Barcelona.

Uefa recently released their own top 10 of fastest sprinters for last season’s Champions League, with Manchester City’s Leroy Sane (34.4km/h) also reaching a higher speed at Williams’ LaLiga record.
