Just past the halfway mark of the MLS season, Los Angeles FC, with 36 points from 18 games, sit atop not only the Western Conference, but boast the record in the entirety of MLS. LAFC sit two points ahead of Austin FC in the Western Conference. Beyond this top two, there’s little to separate the rest of the conference, with the third-and 10th-placed sides – all but one of whom have played either 17 or 18 games – are separated by just six points.

LAFC have also struggled a bit of late, with three losses and a draw in their last eight league games, with a 3-1 defeat (on May 26) to this very LA Galaxy side in the US Open Cup mixed in. That contest marked the fifth in a row for the Galaxy against LAFC without a defeat.
The hosts come into this game with moderate injury concerns up front, as joint-top scorer Carlos Vela (six goals) and Brian Rodriguez are both listed as ‘questionable’.
