Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has nominated club legend Steven Gerrard as his eventual successor in the Anfield dugout.

The 52-year-old German tactician is currently enjoying a fourth consecutive full season on Merseyside having joined in October 2015.

How has Gerrard done at Rangers? Five key things to know…

  • Rangers appointed Steven Gerrard in June 2018.
  • This was the former Liverpool captain’s first managerial job.
  • He’s since overseen 76 matches in all competitions, winning 44 of them with a 58% success rate.
  • Rangers finished second in his first season, nine points behind champions Celtic.
  • Liverpool manager Klopp feels the club will pick him to succeed him.

Since his appointment, following Brendan Rodgers, he’s firmly established the Reds as a force in English football as well as winning the club’s sixth European Cup.

His present deal expires in June 2022 with supporters hopeful of an imminent contract extension but Klopp has made it known he’ll take it a season at a time.

One reason behind his immense popularity is how he’s fully embraced club culture and being supported by legends such as Kenny Dalglish has helped.

Dalglish is someone Klopp sees as potentially taking over from him, but he feels the next man in will be Rangers manager Gerrard.

“Kenny and Stevie have both been a really big support from day one,” he told FourFourTwo.

“Second, my position as a manager has nothing to do with the people around me. If Liverpool were to sack me tomorrow, then maybe Kenny would be the first choice to replace me, but they would probably bring Stevie down from Glasgow.

“If you ask who should follow me, I’d say Stevie. I help him whenever I can. If someone gets your job, it’s not about them, it’s about you not being good enough.

“I’m old enough to know that I give this job everything. I’m not a genius, I’m not perfect, but I give the club 100 per cent. If that’s enough, great. If it’s not, then it’s just the problem of the situation. I’m not jealous, I’m not sceptical. I’m completely open. If you want my help, you’ll get it.”
