Juventus vs Fiorentina build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

In the Champions League, Juventus are perfect, winning all four of their opening matches including a 1-0 win over defending champions Chelsea. However, it has not been the same story in Serie A. In their quest to retain the title after handing it over to Inter Milan last season, Juventus have endured a tough start to the season, losing four of their opening 11 matches. There had been a brief reprieve and upturn in form to move Juventus up the table but that has come to a complete stop with Massimiliano Allegri’s men winless in their past three games including two consecutive defeats going into this weekend.

Fiorentina, meanwhile, will be pleased with their standings in the Serie A table so far as they currently sit seventh with six wins (and five defeats). La Viola haven’t been the most exciting team to watch this season, with their matches involving just 29 matches, but their 16 goals have been enough to see them over the line more often than not. Fiorentina go into this game with three wins from their past six games, but two of their defeats in that same time have come against Lazio and league leaders Napoli.

  • Juventus (vs Zenit): Szczesny; Danilo, De Ligt, Bonucci, Alex Sandro; Bernardeschi, McKennie, Locatelli, Chiesa; Dybala, Morata.
  • Fiorentina (vs Spezia): Terracciano; Venuti, Milenkovic, Martinez Quarta, Biraghi; Bonaventura, Torreira; Sottil, Castrovilli, Saponara; Vlahovic.

Juventus have no fresh concerns following their midweek game against Zenit, while Fiorentina will still be without Nicolas Gonzalez and Bartlomiej Dragowski.

Player to watch: Dusan Vlahovic

The Dusan Vlahovic roadshow continues, with the Serbian striker thriving this season having put himself in the shop window. Fiorentina’s owner Rocco Commisso confirmed last month that Vlahovic would not be signing a new contract, opening up the possibility of leaving for free in the summer of 2023 or being sold beforehand.

Sometimes, when a player looks set to leave, their performances suffer – just look at Harry Kane after his move to Manchester City didn’t come to fruition. But that hasn’t been the case for Vlahovic.

The 21-year-old has scored 25 goals since the start of 2021, with only Robert Lewandowski (36) and Erling Haaland (26) managing more across Europe’s top five leagues across that time span. In comparison to Juventus’ forwards, Vlahovic has scored more goals this year than Alvaro Morata, Federico Chiesa and Paulo Dybala (23) combined in 2021.

This season alone Vlahovic has eight goals in Serie A including a hat-trick against Spezia lat time out, and this weekend he will be looking to become just the second Fiorentina player to score in three consecutive matches against Juventus during the three-point for a win era.
