Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp says he will not risk Mohamed Salah against Wolves even though Tottenham forward Son Heung-Min could overtake him and win the Premier League golden boot.

Salah, 29, heads into the final matchday with a slender one goal lead atop of the standings. The Reds talisman has bagged 22 goals across 34 appearances. However, a knock sustained in their FA Cup final win over Chelsea saw him sidelined at Southampton, and chances are Salah could be rested ahead of the European Cup final against Real Madrid on May 28.

Just when it seemed Salah was romping to a second top scorer prize his lead started narrowing with Son making a late surge. Son has netted 12 times across his last 13 league outings, subsequently putting Antonio Conte’s men on the brink of reaching next season’s Champions League group phase.

With all eyes on a final day battle, Klopp is prepared to be the party popper, especially as Liverpool aren’t exactly short on quality attacking players.

“I understand 100 per cent the goalscoring battle with Son Heung-min, but there is no chance we take any risk; Mo doesn’t want to take any risk, there’s no doubt about that,” he told reporters.

Last time out at Southampton the Reds front-three consisted of Takumi Minamino, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota with Luis Diaz being an unused substitute. Divock Origi, who is set to join Milan this summer, came off the bench and Sadio Mane remained at home.

On the eve of matchday 38 there was further bad news for Salah as Premier League rival Kevin De Bruyne was named the league’s player of the season. De Bruyne has been a gamechanger for the defending champions having netted 15 times in 29 appearances while creating a further seven for his teammates.
