Real Madrid superstar David Alaba has hailed Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham “one of the greatest midfield talents in the world”.

Dortmund have a long and storied association with nurturing some of the finest young talent in world football, and their reputation as a development hotbed has only increased in recent years with the likes of Bellingham, Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho.

The teenage Brummie is the latest poster boy of BVB’s much-vaunted launch pad and is already two games shy of making 100 appearances for the Ruhr Valley club before he’s even turned 20, underling a maturity that certainly belies his still tender years.

That sentiment has recently been echoed by an unlikely source. Alaba, 30, came up against the precocious midfield talent in plenty of Der Klassikers during his time at Bayern Munich, and now, at Real Madrid, he has given his thoughts on an old rival.

As for Bellingham as a player, I can say that he is one of the greatest midfield talents in the world,” Alaba told Welt. “And that at a young age! At just 19, he leads the team, doesn’t hide and already decides games with his style of play.”

Like most emerging stars at the Westfalenstadion, there is a growing belief that Bellingham will, at some point, fly the nest, with the suave midfield engine even being tipped to leave next summer in a transfer that could disorientate the market, such is the fee BVB would rightful demand for his signature.

Liverpool are the club most heavily linked with a move for the England international, but he will certainly have no shortage of suitors when the 2023 summer window opens, and if he does indeed decide to leave the “Yellow Wall” for pastures new.

For the meantime, though, Bellingham will be focused on recovering Dortmund’s season after they were humbled 3-0 by RB Leipzig at the weekend, with their wounds exacerbated by former boss Marco Rose winning his first game in Saxony as the new Roten Bullen manager. BVB next face Man City in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
