Chelsea midfielder Jorginho “will always feel the desire” to return to Serie A football, according to the player’s agent.

The Italian international has been playing well for Frank Lampard’s side this season, while also netting an important penalty against Greece to help the Azzurri secure their place in Euro 2020.

Is Jorginho heading back to Italy?: Five things to know…

  • Jorginho signed for Chelsea in 2018 under the leadership of Maurizio Sarri.
  • He endured a difficult first season in England, often being dubbed Sarri’s favourite.
  • Under Frank Lampard, he has improved, bagging a goal and an assist in eight league games.
  • The Brazilian-born midfielder has also become a key player for Italy.
  • His agent has hinted of the player’s desire to return home.

Jorginho has started to prove himself this season after struggling to adapt to life in the Premier League following a £50m move from Napoli.

The 27-year-old has become an important player in Frank Lampard’s young side with his manager praising his character and ability on more than one occasion already this campaign.

His agent, Joao Santos, has also expressed his delight at the way his client is playing so far this season, revealing that English football has helped improve Jorginho as a player.

“It has certainly been a positive year for Jorginho,” Santos told Radio Sportiva. “He is doing well for the Nazionale and can take part in the Euros. He always converts his penalties, I am very happy for him, as he is working so hard every day.

“Naturally, it was not positive when Giampiero Ventura was the Italy coach, but he has slowly become first choice in that midfield.

“It certainly helps that he plays for Chelsea, because it’s a very intense style of football in England and he learned a lot both from Maurizio Sarri and Frank Lampard.”

When asked if Jorginho’s future is at Chelsea, the agent insinuated that a return to Italy could be possible due to the midfielder’s ‘desire’ to move back home.

“I think Jorginho can do very well at the Euros and, why not, also at the next World Cup. As for a return to Serie A, anything is possible, and he will always feel the desire to come back home.”

Chelsea have won four games in a row across all competitions and take on Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday following the end of the international break.
