Newcastle midfielder, Joelinton has called on Neymar to join the North East club, promising him the Number 10 shirt. That might not go down well with another member of the Newcastle squad, however.

Joelinton has urged his Brazilian compatriot to join him at St James Park next season, telling him that he’s an idol and that Neymar’s favoured number 10 shirt is all his.

Speaking to the Cast FC podcast, the 25 year old said, “We can get him a spot, sure! In any team in the world. If he comes it will be…I can’t explain it, the man is an idol, is huge in world soccer. So, the invitation is done.”

He then sent a message directly to the man with 119 caps for Brazil. “Ney, if you are listening to this, you can come. I’ll run for you all the time!”

Joelinton ended his plea to Neymar by telling him that his shirt is ready for him, “If we have the chance I hope the coach will call him. The number 10 shirt is there waiting for him. I’ll send a message to Bruno. Bruno has his contact, he can send a message inviting Ney to play there.”

Whilst Joelinton’s comments were slightly tongue in cheek, some of what he said may cause some friction within the Newcastle squad, especially from Allan Saint-Maximin, who already wears the number 10 shirt.

The opening day of the transfer window is just over a month away and there is sure to be plenty of activity in the transfer window prior to the first ball being kicked and Newcastle, with their new found wealth, are likely to be very active this summer.

The Magpies have already brought in Matt Targett and Nick Pope but have been linked with numerous other players, including PSG’s talismanic forward. Manager, Eddie Howe has been linked with Sven Botman of Lille with a deal in principle already agreed and whilst a transfer saga involving Hugo Ekitike continues to rumble on, the 44 year old head coach could try and tempt Neymar to the North East.

Neymar has scored 74 goals for Brazil and is rapidly closing in on Pele’s overall goal record for the Canarinho but will he achieve this feat in the blue of PSG or the black and white of Newcastle United?
