Joe Gomez has waxed lyrical about Liverpool’s teenage phenomenon Kaide Gordon, who made his debut against Norwich City in the EFL Cup to become the club’s fifth youngest player ever.
Gordon joined the Anfield club from Derby County in February of this year, having made his Championship bow under Wayne Rooney last December against Birmingham City, just two months after his 16th birthday.
The teenage talent has not had to wait long for his first Liverpool appearance either, impressing so much behind the scenes that Jurgen Klopp afforded him a start against fellow Premier League side Norwich in the EFL Cup third round on Tuesday night.

Gordon entered the campaign having impressed Klopp during pre-season and is very much considered part of the German’s first-team plans this campaign, even if only utilised as a squad player, or even exclusively in the domestic cups.
The 16-year-old played the full 90 minutes as the Reds eased past Norwich 3-0, with a brace from Takumi Minamino and a Divock Origi header settling the score, setting up a fourth-round away trip to Preston North End, where Gordon will, no doubt, be eyeing up further minutes.
Reflecting on the performance and the potential he could reach, Liverpool centre-back Gomez, who also played the entire match against Norwich, believes his teenage team-mate has “no ceiling”, and could reach the very pinnacle of the sport.
“The biggest thing about Kaide is that he seems to have such an old head on his shoulders,” he said.
“And that level-headed mindset keeps him in his place.
“His ability speaks for itself, but he’s such a nice guy. In pre-season, he took everything in his stride.
“Every time he trains with us he applies himself properly. He does extra things that wouldn’t even have crossed my mind when I was his age. Hats off to him, and I’m sure he can go on to have a great career.
“The platform he has, there’s no ceiling to it.”
