Stefanos Tsitsipas will be hoping he can start a run to another Grand Slam final at the 2023 French Open, with the Greek star still awaiting his first major title. Tsitsipas has reached the final of the French Open previously, losing to Novak Djokovaic in 2021 despite having taken the first two sets.

There was another defeat to Djokovic in Australia earlier this year, but this time it was in straight sets, with Tsitsipas’ second Grand Slam final ending with a whimper. On the circuit, Tsitspas warmed up for the French Open with two quarter-final runs at the Monte-Carlo Masters and Madrid Open, before making it to the semi-finals of the Italian Open.

Jiri Vesely will be the man hoping to cause an early upset, qualifying for the French Open with his protected ranking. The 29-year-old missed out of the Australian Open this year but is pretty much an ever-present at Grand Slams, though he rarely troubles the final group.

Vesely’s best run at a Grand Slam is a fourth-round finish at Wimbledon, achieved in both 2016 and 2018. At the French Open, Vesely has made it as far as the third round in 2017, but has also suffered four first-round exits since.

Prediction: Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets
