The Dane does enjoy playing on clay having posted his best performance at a Grand Slam in last year’s French Open, reaching the quarter-finals, while also winning the Bavarian Championship (a ATP 250 tournament).
Like Sinner, Rune has handed a bye to the second round as the sixth seed and he beat wildcard Dominic Thiem in straight sets before being handed a walkover victory against Matteo Berrenttini. In the quarter-finals, Rune ended Daniil Medvedev’s recent impressive run on the tour, beating the third seed 6-3, 6-4.
