Jamie Carragher reveals the one thing Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk must do to be “one of the best”
Jamie Carragher believes Virgil van Dijk only has to add more goals to his game to become “one of the best”.
The Dutchman has had a remarkable effect on Jurgen Klopp’s defence since joining from Southampton in January 2018, managing to go through the entire 2018/19 Premier League season without being dribbled past.

Van Dijk fired Liverpool 3-0 in front against Norwich in their Premier League opener on Friday night and after the goal, Carragher called on the centre-back to produce more of the same in the future to go down as a great.
“I’ve always felt like Van Dijk should get more goals,” he said.
“He’s a statue of a man. We all know he’s some defender but if he adds more goals to his game, there’s no doubt that he is going to go down as one of the best.”

An almost perfect first half saw Klopp’s men take a comfortable 4-0 lead, despite some adventurous attacking play from Norwich, with a Grant Hanley own goal, a Mohamed Salah strike and headers from Van Dijk and Divock Origi putting last season’s Premier League runners-up in complete control.
The only blemish on the first 45 minutes was goalkeeper Alisson Becker leaving the field through injury shortly before half-time, being replaced by Adrian after going down in pain while taking a goal-kick.
Liverpool fans react to Van Dijk goal
The way in which Van Dijk shrugged off Norwich defender Jamal Lewis to head home Liverpool’s third goal on Friday was a perfect illustration of the strength and power of the Holland international.
And, of course, fans on Twitter were quick to give their best reactions to the thunderous header.
