Jack Grealish’s ‘grit’ makes him a better suited to Man Utd than Maddison, says Jonathan Greening

Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish is more suited to Manchester United than Leicester City’s James Maddison, according to Jonathan Greening.
Both Grealish and Maddison have been linked with a move to the Red Devils over the past season for their respective performances.
Many believe Grealish is the biggest reason Aston Villa are not cut adrift at the bottom of the Premier League, with the Villains currently 19th and just two points from safety with 10 games left to play.
Will Manchester United sign Jack Grealish? Five things to know…
- Manchester United signed Bruno Fernandes from Sporting CP in the January transfer window.
- Despite this, they are still being linked with signing Jack Grealish and James Maddison.
- Former Man Utd midfielder Jonathan Greening believes the Red Devils should favour Grealish.
- Grealish has scored seven goals and adding six assists in the Premier League this season.
- In comparison, Maddison has six goals and three assists.
The 24-year-old has been directly involved in 13 of Aston Villa’s 34 goals in the Premier League this season, scoring seven times and recording six assists – both highs among his teammates.
At the same time, Maddison has been key to Leicester’s unlikely chase for a Champions League spot, sitting third in the table and eight points clear of fifth-placed Manchester United.
Maddison, 23, has scored six goals and recorded three assists in the Premier League with only three Leicester players being involved more this season – although he has experienced a quiet period of late.
Despite that, Manchester United’s interest has reportedly not calmed, with the Red Devils still keen on adding Maddison to their squad in the summer.
But Greening, who spent three seasons with Manchester United between 1998 and 2001, believes his former club should favour Grealish due to his determination.
“Over the past few months there’s been talk of Grealish coming or Maddison coming,” he told Metro.
“I actually feel I would prefer Jack Grealish.
“Maddison is a very good player, super technical, he can create, great passing both short and long, and great on set plays.

“Jack Grealish, however, has that little bit of difference, he can take players on, he can drive forwards with the ball, and slide that pass through.
“He’s got that bit of grit and determination; and doesn’t like losing, you can see that in his game.
“Maddison is also maybe a bit too similar to Fernandes, whereas Jack Grealish will bring in something different, he can find pockets of space, he can drive at opponents and take on two, three players in one movement.
“He’d be a better player at United with the current squad than Maddison would be for me.”
