Italy have been in imposing form in the qualifiers for the 2023 World Cup, with Gianmarco Pozzecco’s Gli Azzurri already confirming their place in the tournament. As things currently stand, the one-time quarter-finalists are second, behind only reigning world champions Spain, with six wins and just two defeats.

After a two-tournament absence in 2010 and 2014, Italy returned to the global stage last time out in the belated China showpiece, but they crashed out in round two, finishing third in Group J. The nation’s best ever finish remains in 1998 as they reached the quarter-finals, before eventually losing out to the United States.

Ukraine have only ever reached the World Cup once as an independent nation. That sole appearance came in 2014, and Ainars Bagatskis remains hopeful that The Blue and Yellow can mimc that feat. They are currently locked in a three-way battle for qualification alongside Georgia and Iceland. Both nations sit above Ukraine, but with two games to ago, things are exceptionally tight, and can swing anyway.
