Istanbul Basaksehir vs Fenerbahce build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:
Basaksehir’s title win of 2019/20 already seems so long ago, as the Istanbul club have fallen back away from the top of the table and are now found fighting against relegation – watching on while their local rivals Besiktas, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce compete for silverware. Last season, as defending champions, they finished an underwhelming 12th with more defeats than wins across the campaign, 36 points behind winners Besiktas. But things have got even worse, with Basaksehir losing all of their opening four games to start the new season, beaten by Alanyaspor, Konyaspor, Kayserispor and Goztepe to sit rock bottom.
Fenerbahce, on the other hand, will surely be pleased with their start to the campaign as they look to end a seven-season wait for the Turkish Super Lig title. Last season they were agonisingly close, finishing just two points behind Besiktas, missing out of the title after failing to win two of their final five games. But they have started the new season strongly, winning three and drawing one of their four league games so far. Adana Demispor, Antalyaspor and Altay were all beaten before Sivasspor took a point away from Fenerbahce last weekend – and another draw followed against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League.
- Istanbul Basaksehir (vs Goztepe): Babacan; Sahiner, Ndayishimiye, Duarte, Lima; Tekdemir, Cigerci; Visca, Ozxan, Turuc; Okaka.
- Fenerbahce (vs Eintracht Frankfurt): Bayindir; Aziz, Szalai, Kim; Osayi-Samuel, Luiz Gustavo, Yandas, Kadioglu; Ozil, Valencia, Rossi.
Ahmed Kutucu is injured for Basaksehir, while Junior Caicara is not currently with the first team. Fenerbahce have a host of injuries, including Nazim Sangara, Jose Sosa, Serdar Dursun and Marcel Tisserand.

Player to watch: Mesut Ozil (Fenerbahce)
Mesut Ozil didn’t have the best of starts to life in Turkey following his move from Arsenal in January, failing to score or record an assist in 11 games across all competitions towards the end of last season. However, starting his first full campaign with Fenerbahce, the former Germany international appears to have found his feet.
In just six appearances across all competitions this season, Ozil has already scored two goals and recorded one assist, including the opening strike in Fenerbahce’s 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt in midweek. In the league, he has one goal and one assist in three games, having created four chances at an average of 2.17 per 90 minutes. Against a team that is struggling, Ozil could have a field day.
